Sunday, July 15th - Catarata de Bayoz

After spending the night in San Ramón we drove on to the port of Yurinaki, at the confluence of the Chanchamayo and Perené rivers, about 40 mins down the road from La Merced.

At Yurinaki we turned off the road, and after driving about 2 km up a dirt track through the forest, we arrived at the little center near the base of the Bayoz waterfall. From there it was a short walk uphill, past several smaller falls, to the base of the main fall, where there was lovely pool surrounded by wooded hills and gigantic electric blue Morpho butterflies. We all had a great time playing around in the water, and as we were there before the tour groups showed up, we had it almost to ourselves.

The kids decided that it was worth the long hours in the car, and I can't say that I disagree with that assessment. It was simply beautiful, and a lot of fun.

Great blog, this area is so often neglected by tourists, this was by far my favourite catarata of the region.
